Air Conditioner Won't Turn On? Here's What To Check
It’s that first hot day of the year in the Roanoke area and you turn on your air conditioner, and nothing happens. Before calling Ostrom for service, there are a few simple things you can check yourself.
- Make sure the thermostat is set to “Cool” and not been accidentally moved to “Off” or “Heat”.
- Ensure the thermostat temperature is set low enough to make the AC unit turn on.
- Check that the unit’s external safety switch (located on an exterior wall near the condensing unit) is set to the “on” position.
- Check that the circuit breaker that controls the compressor and the circuit breaker that controls the blower or air handler is set to the “on” position. Reset the tripped circuit breaker. If the circuit breaker cannot be reset, do not try to reset it more than once. Have a qualified technician check the unit to determine the cause of the problem.
