Making A Splash Safely—Hot Tub & Pool Wiring 101

The spring season is finally here. While many of us are limited to staying indoors, those with outdoor spaces can’t wait for the weather to warm up, so they can spend more time enjoying their backyards. If you have a hot tub or pool, now’s the time for maintenance, as peak season is on its way! For others that don’t have a spa or pool, now is a great time to install one! Just remember, this is no DIY job—always hire a professional technician for installation to ensure your pool or hot tub is safe for soaking.

Spring Cleaning

With the current COVID-19 outbreak, now is an ideal time to do some work around the house or backyard, as we are all searching for ways to pass the days. Try some of these easy spring cleaning tips for your hot tub setup:

  • Drain your spa water.

  • Clean everything with the proper chemicals.

  • Replace your spa’s filter.

  • Air out your hot tub cover.

  • Wash your cover every two weeks.

  • Keep your hot tub topped off as much as possible to keep the pump in a healthy condition.

Pool Maintenance

Your pool can benefit from spring maintenance as well. Make sure you are frequently testing your pool’s Ph levels and adjusting accordingly. You don’t want to start the summer with a pool that is totally out of whack or has algae growing on the interior. It also is important to inspect any lighting you have in your pool.

Hot Tub & Spa Electrical Safety

Hot tubs may seem approachable as a DIY project, but we can assure you that they’re more complicated than they look. There are a variety of safety codes and regulations that go into wiring a hot tub. The National Electric Code (NEC) has pages on just the installation protocols. Electricity and water can be a dangerous mix so be careful and trust the professionals.
